2024 CALENDAR: 4 CONTINENTS IN SEASON 3

The W2RC has unveiled its 2024 calendar, featuring 5 races held on 4 continents in season 3 of the FIA-FIM World Rally-Raid Championship. The programme for next year shuffles the deck without straying too far from the formula of the two previous seasons. In addition to classics such as the Dakar, the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge and the Rallye du Maroc, the Desafío Ruta 40 is returning for the second year in a row and, as in 2022, there will be a European round, namely, the BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Transibérico through Portugal and Spain. Following the 46^th Dakar in Saudi Arabia and the ADDC in the Emirates, the W2RC caravan will leave Asia for Europe before moving on to Latin America. After the summer break, Africa, the cradle of the sport, will crown the victors in the traditional finale in Morocco.

David Castera, Motor Sports Director at Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O., the promoter of the FIA-FIM World Rally-Raid Championship), said: “Season 3 of the W2RC is already starting to take shape on the January 2024 horizon. The constant growth of the field this year shows just how successful this format has become. The 2024 calendar will follow the same recipe, which blends tradition, continuity and innovation. Apart from the three major events of the sport, the theme of the current season has been the exploration of the Americas. This will continue next season, when the Desafío Ruta 40 in Argentina, which is coming back from its hiatus this year, returns for a new edition. Mirroring its inaugural campaign, the W2RC will head to Europe, this time for the BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Transibérico, a geographically closer and less expensive gateway to the sport for competitors, teams and fans from this continent, which remains the leading incubator of rally raids. This new event will make an impact in more ways than one because it runs through Portugal and Spain, two countries that stand out for their motor sports know-how and tradition. This time more than ever, the calendar will be a hit with rookies and veterans alike.”

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President, stated: “The A.S.O. and the FIA have been working hard behind the scenes to continue to improve the appeal of the FIA World Rally-Raid Championship. Cross-country rallying is one of the fastest growing sporting disciplines under the FIA umbrella and we are delighted to see how the W2RC has attained a global reach in such a short space of time. As the founder of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in 1991, I am delighted that it is an integral part of the W2RC, having been an ever present in the FIA cross-country calendar since 1993. It’s also pleasing to see a new event introduced into the calendar. Portugal and Spain have a strong culture and extended practice of cross-country rallying and the new event will enable spectators in this region to see the best in the world in action on their doorstep.”

CAMPEONATO DEL MUNDO DE RALLY-RAID FIA-FIM

EL CALENDARIO 2024: 4 CONTINENTES EN LA TEMPORADA 3

El W2RC ha revelado el calendario de su temporada 2024. Cinco carreras organizadas en 4 continentes están en el menú de la 3ª temporada del Campeonato del Mundo de Rally-Raid FIA-FIM. El futuro programa se inspira y se apoya en sus raíces, con los terrenos de sus dos primeras temporadas. Junto a los habituales Dakar, Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge (ADDC) y Rally de Marruecos, el Desafío Ruta 40 regresa por segundo año consecutivo y, como en 2022, se vuelve a competir en el continente europeo, esta vez en Portugal y España con el BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Transibérico. Cronológicamente, tras la 46ª edición del Dakar en Arabia Saudita, seguida del ADDC en los Emiratos, la caravana del W2RC saldrá de Asia para dirigirse hacia Europa, antes de hacer sus maletas para América Latina. Después de un parón estival, será África, patria de la disciplina, la que revelará los nombres de los futuros campeones, con la tradicional final en Marruecos.

El aumento constante del número de vehículos participantes en las carreras de este año demuestra el éxito de la fórmula propuesta. El calendario de 2024 mantendrá su dinámica, combinando tradición, continuidad e innovación. Además de los tres eventos claves de la disciplina, la temporada actual ha estado marcada por la exploración del continente americano. Esta dirección se mantendrá el próximo año con una nueva edición del Desafío Ruta 40 en Argentina, que reapareció en 2023. Como en su primer año, el W2RC volverá a Europa, esta vez con el BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Transibérico. Una puerta geográfica y económica más accesible para los competidores, los equipos y los espectadores de este continente, que sigue siendo el lugar de donde vienen la mayoría de los participantes. Esta novedad tendrá un doble impacto, ya que se cruzarán Portugal y España, dos países con una larga cultura en los deportes de motor y una gran experiencia en este ámbito. Se trata de un calendario capaz de satisfacer más que nunca tanto a los experimentados como a los que llegaron hace poco.”

El Presidente de la FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, comentó que: “A.S.O. y la FIA han trabajado en estrecha colaboración para reforzar el atractivo del Campeonato del Mundo de Rally-Raid de la FIA. El rally-raid es una de las disciplinas de más rápido crecimiento bajo el paraguas de la FIA y estamos encantados de ver cómo el W2RC ha logrado un alcance global en tan poco tiempo. Como fundador del Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge en 1991, estoy encantado de que esta carrera se haya convertido en parte integrante del campeonato, ya que lleva en el calendario de cross-country de la FIA desde 1993. También es bueno ver que se introduce un nuevo evento en el calendario. Portugal y España tienen una fuerte cultura y una amplia práctica de rally raid y esta nueva carrera permitirá a los espectadores de esta región ver a los mejores del mundo en acción a las puertas de sus casas.”

El Presidente de la FIM, Jorge Viegas, añadió: “La creciente popularidad del W2RC se refleja en este gran calendario para 2024, con el desarrollo del campeonato del próximo año en cuatro continentes, incluyendo su regreso a Europa y una importante etapa en Argentina. Este país ya ha acogido el Dakar y eventos del Campeonato del Mundo FIM en el pasado y proporcionará estabilidad a la serie en América Latina. Junto con el promotor del campeonato, A.S.O., seguimos trabajando estrechamente para mejorar la seguridad en una disciplina extremadamente exigente. También estoy orgulloso de la continua colaboración entre la FIM y la FIA en varios asuntos de interés común, que brindarán beneficios duraderos a todos los involucrados.
